Arun is a ten year old with severe factor VIII deficiency. He is enrolled in the third grade where his favorite subject is English. He speaks the local language, Malayalam. He enjoys drawing in his free time and would like to become an artist when he is grown. Arun has four bleeding episodes a month on average. He visited the clinic 15 times last year and received nine infusions. Arun lives with his mother, Sobhana, and his father, Jyothibhanu. He also has one brother, Jishnu, age 13, who is also factor VIII deficient. His father earns $21 per month working as a freelance photographer. His mother keeps the family’s simple home, which they own in the village. They do not have a refrigerator or a stove in their home.
